Happy Spring Everyone!
Spring has sprung, and with the days getting longer and warmer, one's thoughts naturally turn towards the environment (especially with all those birds chirping at 3 in the morning). So, for April, the month with Earth Day, we have chosen to read a piece of environmental science fiction, "Appleseed" by Matt Bell.
Author Bio: Matt Bell is an American writer who has published several novels and a slew of short stories. In addition to writing, he teaches English at Arizona State University and serves as the editor for Dzanc Books and The Collagist, a monthly online literary magazine.
Summary: Traveling from 18th Century Ohio to the second half of the 21st Century and concluding a thousand years from now with North America covered by a massive sheet of ice, "Appleseed" is one part speculative fiction, one part techno-thriller and one part modern fairy tale. It is a meditation on climate change, responsibility, manifest destiny, and the myths & legends that help sustain all humans.
