Happy Summer Everyone!
As we close in on the longest day of the year we are taking the opportunity to branch out from adult science fiction into a piece of young adult sci-fi, in the form of "The Rest of Us Just Live Here" by Patrick Ness.
Author Bio: Patrick Ness is an American-British author, journalist, lecturer, and screenwriter. He won the annual Carnegie Medal in 2011 and 2012 for "Monsters of Men" and "A Monster Calls" respectively. He also wrote the screenplay of the 2016 film adaptation of "A Monster Calls", and was the creator and writer of the "Doctor Who" spin-off series "Class". Ness has taught creative writing at the University of Oxford University and has written and reviewed for The Daily Telegraph, The Times Literary Supplement, The Sunday Telegraph, and The Guardian.
Summary: What if you aren't the Chosen One? The one who's supposed to fight the zombies, or the soul-eating ghosts, or whatever the heck this new thing is, with the blue lights and the death? What if you're like Mikey? Who just wants to graduate and go to prom and maybe finally work up the courage to ask Henna out before someone goes and blows up the high school? Again. Because sometimes there are problems bigger than this week's end of the world, and sometimes you just have to find the extraordinary in your ordinary life.
