*** Friendly Reminder: We will be meeting in less than a week ***
Post Holiday Greetings Everyone:
Now that the most frigid days of winter appear behind us, we only have the dreary, rainy days of February left to keep us all inside...and hopefully reading. Our choice for next month is the novella: "The Mimicking of Known Successes" by Malka Older.
Author Bio: Malka Older is an academic and humanitarian worker who has also published several novels, some eBooks, and short fiction. She is probably best known for her "Centenal Cycle Trilogy," which composes the novels "Infomocracy," "Null States," and "State Tectonics." The latter of which won her a Prometheus Award in 2019. In addition, Older was also a 2017 finalist for the John W. Campbell Award for Best New Writer.
When a man goes missing on a remote outpost of a human colony on Jupiter, Investigator Mossa is sent to investigate how the impossible has somehow become possible. She traces the missing man back to Valdegeld, home to its university. While there, Mossa reconnects with a past love, Pleiti, who has dedicated her life to researching the ecosystems of a pre-collapsed Earth, aiding the effort towards one day returning life to the planet. When Mossa requests her help in the investigation, she is pulled into a mystery with more profound consequences than just one missing man and their damaged relationship...the future of Earth is at stake.
